Hello and welcome to A.C.T,
My name is Keith Armour and I’m the owner and head behavioural dog trainer here at Armour Canine Training. My main aim is to work with dog owners, who wish to invest in their dogs, creating a good dog/owner relationship that they can both enjoy for life.
I became a qualified trainer affiliated with the ADTB (Academy of Dog Training and Behaviour) run by Jenni Watson, after completing all their written coursework and assessments. (Passed with Distinction) The ADTB promote positive reward-based training, something that I truly feel helps me in getting the most out of each dog that I meet. Furthermore, I decided to do 2 years of practical hands on training, instead of the recommended 1 year with dogs (predominantly German Shepherds) under the guidance of my ADTB mentor dog trainer (Brian Glasgow).
I am also a registered trainer with the CIA (Canine Instructor Academy) where I attended a 5 day residential course under the tuition of Robert Alleyne (TV’s Dog Borstal). Which was extremely informative and hands on, dealing with clients and training them and their dogs in an array of training exercises that are common problems.
I am currently furthering my knowledge of dogs by studying Health and Nutrition, Level 3 Advanced Canine Behaviour, and I am working towards becoming a registered trainer with the IMDT (Institute of Modern Dog Trainers) too. I have completed the 2 day and 4 day practical course with the IMDT and working towards my assessment.
Myself and my German Shepherd dog Kodi are members of the GSDL of GB and GSDLWB (German Shepherd Dog League of Great Britain) where we attend Forth Sports Dog Club. At this club we are currently training towards our BH and the first stage of our IGP journey (IGP 1). The disciplines covered in this sport are Competitive Obedience, Protection Work and Tracking.
We were also members of Grangemouth Dog Club. Grangemouth Dog Club has been running over 20 years and is based at the Grangemouth Rugby Club. It’s a mixed breed dog club, which covers a range of obedience, competitive obedience and some agility too.
Over the last 3 years, I have also been volunteering at the Dogs Trust West Calder, Livingston. This is something that I really enjoyed and feel that I was contributing to give dogs a better quality of life whilst in the care of Dogs Trust..
During the last 3 years of volunteering with dogs and puppies, I have been studying closely with my mentor Brian Glasgow of Dogfellas in Grangemouth. Brian has been working with German Shepherds for over 35 years, competing in working trials, IGP, IPO, tracking, training police dogs, running puppy classes, doing 121 training and training Grangemouth Dog Club members for over 20 years. I’ve learned so much by assisting Brian over the last 3 years, by assisting with consultations, 121 training sessions, puppy classes, dog club sessions and trained closely with reactive dogs under the guidance of Brian.
For a long time, I’ve had a general want to help others and since working with dogs and owners alike, I’ve found where I am truly meant to be in life. Training dog owners and showing them how to get the best out of their dog, by strengthening their relationship and communication together brings a lot of joy and satisfaction.
I also have first hand experience and wholeheartedly understand, what it’s like to own and live with a reactive dog. From a young age my German Shepherd (Kodi) was reactive to everything, but with commitment and constant training things are now totally different. I can empathise with all struggling owners, knowing just how upsetting and stressful it can be. Even just to try and do the basic things, that you’d expect to do and enjoy being a dog owner. This is what makes me care more for the mental health of both dog and owner, and I really want to help keep dogs out of shelters and from being put to sleep in veterinary surgeries.
If you have tried everything with your dog and visited multiple trainers, but still have the same old issues and problems, please get in touch. I am really looking forward to working with you and want to thank you in advance for “investing in your dog”.
